SPECIAL ADMISSION ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
The Special Admission entrance requirements applies to applicants who have not completed a Canadian Grade 12 High School Diploma or GED program or applicants who have completed their education in a foreign school. We will consider the eligibility of applicants for the CHN Health Care Aide Diploma Program who meet the following criteria:
- Applicants who have completed their education in a foreign school must provide proof that their qualifications are at least equivalent to a Grade 12 Diploma offered by canadian high schools. This can be provided through The Academic Credentials Assessment Service in Manitoba or through other recognized organizations. The Academic Credentials Assessment Service provides a free evaluation of international education to determine its equivalency in Manitoba standards.
- A prospective Canadian student that does not have a Grade 12 standing may take an academic skills assessment test and provide proof that their academic performance is at or better than a Grade 12 level. Applicants with Mature Student Status (defined as at least 19 years of age and one year out of high school) may also be considered.
- Applicants whose first language is not English, and who in the judgement of the Program Administrator may have difficulty in completing the program, will be required to provide proof of their English language skills. The Winnipeg English Language Assessment and Referral Centre can provide a language assessment for these applicants. Applicants whose English language skills do not meet the job requirements can attend English as an Additional Language (EAL) training programs prior to admission.
- Applicants who have a combination of previous knowledge and experience relevant to the Health care Aide program such as a foreign trained Nurse or Health Care Aide or a Canadian Home Care Worker with health care experience.
